The Power of Education
Many young girls in Pakistan like Humara, a 17 year-old girl, and Nasreen's 14 year-old sister, are married young and cannot continue their education for a number of reasons. There are barriers such as distance, household chores and childcare responsibilities that prevent these girls from attending school.
In order to help these young mothers, Plan International, an International Non-Government Organisation, set up centers for non-formal education. From 2011 to 2013, more than 11, 2000 girls like Humara and Nasreen's sister have been accessing free education at these centres. The centre also provides caretakers to ensure the safety of these young women, during their journey to and from the centre. Educating these women will bring many benefits to their families, as they are equipped with ways to be economically productive.
